How to Dispute a Credit Report Error
How Common are Errors?
The Federal Trade Commission estimates that 1 in every 5 people has an error on their credit report, while some of these errors are minor others can have a significant impact on your credit, making it difficult to even access your credit report. If you’ve found an error on your report or are having difficulty accessing your report, follow these steps! Remember, the credit bureaus have up to 30 days to investigate your dispute and respond back with their findings and resolution.
What to Include in Your Dispute

Incorrect Personal Information: Such as your name, address, date of birth or social security number.

Unfamiliar Accounts: These can be accounts fraudulently opened in your name or belonging to someone else.

Incorrect Account Information: Accounts reporting as open that are closed, incorrect payment history, incorrect balances and/or limits and duplicate accounts.
