HOW TO REDUCE TRIGGER LEADS
Did you apply for a loan or a credit card and now you're getting multiple phone calls, texts or emails a day?
Did you apply for a loan or a credit card and now you're getting multiple phone calls, texts or emails a day?
What is a trigger lead?
When you apply for a loan and give permission for your credit report to be accessed, it triggers an inquiry. Equifax, Experian and TransUnion are then notified and they have the ability to sell your information to other companies. This practice is applied to mortgages, auto loans, personal loans, credit cards, etc.
Is this legal?
For now the sale of trigger leads is legal but it may not be for long. In May of 2022, a bill was introduced to prohibit the creation and sale of trigger leads called the Trigger Leads Abatement Act of 2022.
How do I stop them?
There currently isn't a way to completely stop trigger leads. However, if you follow these steps before or after having your credit pulled you can significantly reduce them-we strongly suggest completing these steps before!
